I've got pretty much exactly the same shot of the moon and Venus from January 2025, in case that helps the discussion... not an expert on either photography or astronomy myself...

Like there's the dichotomy between a government being clearly incredibly incompetent, but simultaneously managing to keep intricate conspiracies involving thousand of people going for decades...

Wow that's an impressive camera :) When Venus is defocused (around the 1:30 mark), are those undulating streaks a camera artefact, or atmospheric distortion, or something different?

I'm sneaking into MB at work and they've blocked Reddit, so I can't see the contents of the OP, but for what it's worth, I was taking pictures of a very large bright "star" close to the moon a couple of nights ago, (probably Venus?), and the autofocus went pretty funky, and it looked exactly...

To me, Flat Earth is just the most pointless of all conspiracy theories. (not counting "fun" conspiracies, like Bielefeld and Finland not existing or things like that) Do they ever satisfactorily explain why "they" would want us to believe that the Earth is a sphere? Who stands to gain? Or is it...

It really depends on which picture you look at... in some, the dangly bit looks a but further away from the main part, so it could be payload on a balloon of indeterminable size, on another one it does look like the valve (is that the word for that bit?) Somebody mentioned a helicopter above...

Definitely looks like a metallic weather balloon or similar, with some kind of sensor equipment attached below. Or possibly a gas balloon really high up? They're mostly white, but I've found pictures of metallic ones.

I just hope nobody will fall over the edge...

Aww, I loved Spaceballs as a kid. I've watched it so often I knew the entire script by heart. Haven't seen it in a while though. Maybe that's better, in order not to spoil my fond memories? Not sure how well it has aged...
