As one might expect, the reports are much higher in the places where (1, most significant) the air is drier/clearer and the cloud cover is lower, and (2) the temperatures are warmer, such that people are more likely to be outside at night.
Commentator: "But this is looking a hell of a lot like aliens", from a person who has no basis on which to judge what "aliens" should look like.
