Welcome Thread - New Members Post Here

Hello all, nice to virtually meet you!

My first impression is unfortunately not a good one as my first post was deleted! Not actually sure why, just got a generic message in my inbox and a slapped wrist. I was polite, on-topic and the media I posted insightful so who knows. I certainly seemed to follow the rules as provided on the links in the email.

[Mod: off topic material removed - this is the Welcome thread, not a discussion thread]

Thanks guys look forward to seeing you in the forums. If my posts remain, that is! lol

Hi there! I logged on to this site just after the issues began, I've been following loyally since! I am scared yet fascinated by all of the great minds that have been offering so much info!
I don't have much to add to the posts, but really love the knowledge I've gained! Thanks for having me!

This thread is for any first time poster to (optionally) post an introductory "hi everyone" post, which will also get you "verified" (meaning you can post without anti-spam restrictions) once it has been approved.

A few words on who you are and how you ended up here would be appreciated. Or just say hi!

Just so happy to find an intelligent site with some answers I can give to some friends on Facebook that get carried away believing things that are either conspiracy theories or just out there ideas. Ie Flat Earth believers, my friend Ryan is just carried away with it. I don't have the time to research and answer all his posts, not sure I want to even debate him, but I would at least like to have the correct answers in my own mind.

Hello,

I'm a journalist from Arkansas that's lurked here quite a bit. I write a weekly column that focuses mainly on science/technology as well as conspiracy theories, culture and politics.

I love hate mail but hate hate phone calls.

Ok! Well, I’m a 53 y/o mother of 3 grown sons, 30, 27, and 25. Oldest lives in Concord CA and works for a water testing company, middle son graduated from ASU in 2014 with a degree in Natural Energy and Business Sustainability (with honors), my youngest is attending Univ. Of AZ studying Construction Management. I grew up in Millbrae (near SFO, always had a great love for and interest in any and all aircraft. I live in Solano Co. now and love living near Travis AFB. I work at HCSF Medical Center. I love to learn about all kinds of engineering, research, and reading about debunking everything. I have extreme respect for all who post here, find it extremely fascinating and have been following the Oroville Dam incident very closely on this site. My boyfriend has property and 2 homes in Oroville, which was my main reason for following; the thought of that structure being destroyed and the decades of damage it would cause to that area have ten fold exceeded anything I could have ever imagined!
Thank you everyone for your knowledge and expertise, I have learned so much!

Hi all, so good I found this treasure of debunk material, I am making flat earth debunk videos for over two years and am happy no one managed to debunk me!!

So I am 60 years old and start my pension, last Job was manager of a research department

I've seen your videos and comments - you're a pretty tireless warrior. Welcome to the forum. :)

Hi everyone. I'm delighted to be here and (hopefully) add to the debunking fun! I live in Canada, and unfortunately some really awful conspiracy theories and other bunk has started to reach us here; I am more frequently running into people that have a lot of trouble weighting evidence and understanding that claims are just ... well...claims. I'm looking forward to hanging with you all!

Hi All!

I'm new here and have very interesting topics to discuss. I'm a Management Consultant by profession and am looking forward to have good many discussions here.

Hey everyone!

not sure if I am posting in the right spot or not.. I just joined metabunk a few days ago and I have already found it to be very informative. A few things about myself....

I used to be a hardcore conspiracy theorist, but after reading an article about the Psychology of why humans enjoy conspiracies so much I decided it wasn't worth it. Not to mention it was making me Very paranoid, and simply isn't a fun way to go about living. So instead of just google searching about conspiracy theories, I started to search the theory, followed by debunked. That is what lead me here and it's been nice to step outside of the rabbit hole.

I do worry about others that are so far down the rabbit hole, Flat Earthers especially.

I loved your visit to the Joe Rogan Experience, Mick.

Hello everyone. I came here because there are many in my ideological peer group that believe in 9/11 truth, dangers of fluoride, vaccines, GMO's etc. I want to learn how to debunk some of the hysteria I hear.

I am KAN DAEK. I took an interest in this forum during the Oroville Dam issues last February. I found the posting here superior to other forums.

I've used this site for years to debunk many things, thanks for everything you do. I'm posting to get help debunking these recent claims of direct energy weapons floating around this week, (because of unburned trees) after the recent( ongoing) California fires.

Hi, and thanks for letting me in. My name is Pete and I live in Finland. For now, I'm a serious flat-Earther. However, I want to show respect to all kind of people, even if we think in different ways. I think I can learn something new here since I don't know everything.

Hi all, just joined. Old and slow Veteran, Pilot and semi Skeptic. Been hooked into a few conspiracies in my time. Learning the ways. Like the analysis on here. Hope to be able to contribute....

Hello everyone, my names Matt. I’ve frequented this site recently, though I just made an account today, to ‘keep my sanity’.

Greetings,

I've been lurking on this site for a bit. Signed up some months ago and haven't properly made an introduction. For the past 10 years I have worked solely in the construction industry primarily dealing with heavy civil, environmental and military applications. Past and current endeavors have included logging, orchard farming, cattle ranching and whitewater rafting. Looking forward to learning and contributing here on Metabunk.

Hello,
My name is Cody. I came to this site from contrailscience. I've heard of conspiracy theories for years, and my dad and I would talk about them, but it didn't seem like the conspiracies were taken seriously. In the last 10 years...or since Obama's presidency, my dad has really taken a lot of the conspiracies to heart. HAARP and chemtrails are the two we mainly focus on.
Like others, I've lurked on here and contrailscience for awhile. I decided to join and contribute or at least provide some questions.

Hi everyone,
My name is Robert. Almost 1 year ago I had an injury at work. Recently the company I worked for terminated my employment on the grounds of ill health. Not going to bore you with details, but my period of sickness left me with a lot of time to kill. I started to watch YouTube and as YouTube is, it didn't take long before I found masses and masses of what we call Fear Porn. At first I was shocked at the outrageous claims many channels made. Once I had learnt that money could be earned through views I realized why seemingly intelligent people were talking BS. Clickbait! It was my misfortune that I stumbled across the Nibiru/Nemesis channels. I had always had a passing interest in Astronomy, but that was it, just an interest. My knowledge in this area was at best average, yet I knew these channels were making highly speculative assumptions and making downright false claims. Once I started posting comments I found my questions went unanswered, it was as if I wasn't there, I was ignored. It took me a while to find out I had been blocked, purely for asking questions that tested the channel presenters knowledge. If you are reading this, you will know exactly what I mean. As I was ignored or blocked I decided to try to make my own YouTube videos responding to NIBIRU madness. Over the last 8 months I have posted 118 videos, have 184 subscribers and at 60 years + find myself learning new skills. OK, my work will never get an Oscar, but through it I have also found friendships around the world. I came across Metabunk during research, I found much of what I was responding to on YouTube already here. It has since become invaluable as a tool of my research and I have recommended it to others. Over the months I have found that large organisations, institutions and highly qualified people are very keen to help in answering my many questions to help dispel myths, misconceptions and lies. I have an email contact list that looks like the who's who of the scientific world. After all that said and done, I am happy if I can help just 1 human being from being taken in by the YouTube rogues.

Welcome Robert.
I love the internet, but one of the biggest externalities has been the monetization of dishonest video clips...
we've always suffered b.s., but never before have people had such a financial incentive to crank out lies, daily. :(

I'm intrigued by your list...

Yeah, so, I suppose I'm the latest one around here. Found this place while looking for facts supporting what my brain said. And, I found it too. So, I figured I'd become a member to easier ask specific questions.

Actual name is Daniel, but "DannyBoy" stuck since way back when I watched Where Eagles Dare the first time. As the years passed, and more and more people got onto them internets, well, DannyBoy wasn't sufficiently unique anymore...and I did NOT want to become "DannyBoy(and some random thing here that would change from site to site)" So, I stuck my own "2k" onto it. It's seemed to work so far, touch wood.

Hi everyone,

I am very pleased to have found this site. I am learning so much stuff by coming in here. In terms of what wound up leading me to this site were mostly due to learning of flat earth conspiracies and in researching things that debunk it, among other things this particular site popped up in my search. and so I started reading it. Of course I tend to find that people who argue one will argue many, so the 911 truth movement and moon landing hoax concepts also were on my radar on here. *I have a good friend that recently brought up the flat earth 4 months ago and have been working hard on trying to help them realize that the truth is the truth. It is difficult, but he seems to be respecting the fact that I am doing it in a manner which is positive, and just stating facts, while also allowing for them the benefit of the doubt on certain things we can agree on.

I find this extremely informative and very well thought out. As a matter of fact, there is such a wealth of information on here I am finding for almost every conspiracy.

I am looking forward to learning from others, and contributing where I can, and love the way everything here is matter of fact, and very intelligent discussion.

I sincerely appreciate being here and thanks to everyone so far on their help of things I have asked for already (I probably should have done this post first).

Everyone have a great day!

Hi there.
Landed here in search of factual background info as I debate a friend who is a 911 truther (sigh), and occasionally my mom on homeopathy. This place is an island paradise in the information mess that is the internet and it comforts me to see I am not alone in the struggle against irrationality. Well the world is confusing and scary, I get that, but I feel non-sense certainly won't help with it.

Few words on me: From "Old Europe". Consider myself a secular humanist/atheist. My field of expertise is molecular biology/oncology (PhD), happy to help if useful. Like facts/ data.

I highly appreciate the great work you do and the effort you put in, this is an awesome site and community. Keep it up!

Saw you on Joe Rogan's podcast Mike and joined this site because of that. And yes I watch his podcasts I don't get them off iTunes before anyone points that out. Not much to say about me ex military and ex mensa living the dream down under Cheers

Hi all,

found this site when researching flat earth, can't discuss conspiracy theories at work, people already have concrete answers and rigid believes about all topics, here on the other hand researches and inquisitive minds can shed some fresh light, give down to earth answers to difficult questions or show things from another angle.

I would like to post a question or two, get answers and remove my doubts

Thank You for great site and learning resources

Kind Regards

Hi, I am fleeing from the internet so I hope I am safe here ;) I am not comfortable being lumped into 'that group' by virtue of having a doubt or two about a certain subject. Curiously, someone out there was using a thread of yours (which was for purposes of debunking) in support of that which was being debunked! That is how I came across your site and I hope to contribute something worthwhile in the long run.

Hi.

I've been keeping up an anti-gematria blog for almost a year now. In a long history of outrageous claims someone said Sandy Hook was closed since 2008 due to flooding. That's how I found this site.

I have a degree in Entomology and numerologists lack of scientific knowledge irks me. We have a running argument over Pi.

I see in the guidelines that I'm not supposed to be sarcastic. That's tough for me. I'll try very hard.

Hi Everyone,

Soundly here. I spend my spare time taking photographs. Some (a lot) of those photographs capture the curvature of the earth. I've been debunking flat-earth for over a year now and I've been following metabunk for a few months now. Having seen a few threads with contributors making direct requests related to my work I figured I could answer some of those questions easily enough and decided to join up.

I generally am willing to share any photograph I've taken and typically try to fulfill requests for specific images from my subscribers. I extend the same attitude here to the metabunk community. I look forward to the forums.

Thanks,
Soundly

Welcome! Big fan of your work. :)

Hello all, just joined after seeing this site searching for that 'canadian ufo defence guy debunked' and like what I saw. So hello!

A bit about me... I love learning about stuff, and getting to the bottom of problems, and particularly enjoy seeing 'like & share' things on Facebook and inevitably throwing in a bit of logic and reason into the sea of BS out there. Conspiracy theories also really interest me, not only the actual theories and how they were brought to life, but the psychology behind people wanting to believe in them, taking huge leaps of faith just because of a jpeg with impact font.

I consider myself a skeptic, and I subscribe to the Skeptics Guide to The Universe Podcast, but that's about as far as I've taken it to date so would be good to have a forum to discuss these things on!

Also, I am literally in disbelief that the username 'Dave' was available. This is now my favourite website.
I like your first paragraph. As for the third, it seems like I've known a gazillion people named Dave, but many fewer named Terry. Yet Terry was already taken. Maybe the other Daves gave up long ago?
