Thank you Mick West. I became interested in joining MB not to post and make a lot of talk. I was led here through clicking at Dr. Judy Wood. I am 49 years old but it would appear that I am 2 years late, though I have only read the first page of many pages

I joined in the hope of doing so would allow me to copy/paste text from forums to friends viaemail or text, At this point, I have nothing to add to any discussion I am looking to copy and share 1 on 1 with people I know via email or text. Social Media is not my thing anyway. Thank you.

"hi everyone" Love the work you all are doing. I'm in my first year of physics. Better late than never. 'Bout it :)

Need to post twice it appears :) On another note, i have been posting the sites links where needed. i.e. FE discussions and others with questions.I am assuming that is ok :)

Read up the posting guidelines etc, and keep stuff thread relevant, and there is always general discussions etc for questions you can't find a home for...

and welcome

Hi, I've been a frequent visitor to this site but first landed during research for a chemtrails argument.
A couple of years ago I finally hit social media and was very surprised to find that some of my old friends are still thinking like we did when we were sixteen. Which is quite a while ago.
Even more astonishing was how hostile they became when the barrage of woo feed they obviously felt was of interest was challenged.
When someone called me a shill I had to go and look it up.

Is it that the internet has simply revealed to me that everyone is mental or is the internet itself making everyone mental because its unfathomable eternal vastness implies that if it's on the internet it must be true?

Anyway, keep up the good work. :D

No, you are just more likely to experience more of those who have, shall we say, thought disorders :) But i will agree that the internet has made the amount of misinformation a larger problem. But rest assured, those who believe something is true without needing it to be proven to them are of little concern.

I was Googling high rise fires and ended up at the Debunked: WTC7 vs Chechnya's Tallest Building Fire thread. I wanted to make a comment, but it appears that most if not all threads on that subject are closed. So I guess I'll say it here.

It was said that the structural systems were made of different materials. WTC7's structural columns and beams were structural steel and Chechnya's structural columns and beams were reinforced concrete. It was said that the reinforced concrete had better fire resistance. That may be true, but WTC7 was probably constructed as a Type I-FR building and the code would have required that the main supporting columns and beams have at least a 3-HR fire-resistance rating.

There are any number of UL approved methods to achieve the required fire rating, but the easiest would probably have been spray on fireproofing. So basically, those columns and beams should have been able to withstand exposure to a fire for at least 3 hours before failing. Maybe they lasted that long, I don't know. I just wanted to bring this up in case anyone got the impression that WTC7's main structural columns and beams were only bare steel. Bare steel could warp, twist, and fail pretty quickly in a fire.

Aside from that, I found some other interesting topics to comment on.

Hi so pleased to find you and

Hello all

This is the first time I've ever used a forum, but after viewing the content on this website I had to jump aboard. I first found this site in my search for some straight answers about the whole Chemtrail/Contrail concept/theory. I've always been a skeptic in that regard, ever since I was first shown what a "Chemtrail" was (Family connections) And this site has pretty much sealed my beliefs (That they are indeed Contrails), or at least it has satisfied my search for answers with scientific backing.

Having said that, there are some loose questions I have about the contrail subject that don't quite fall under debunking, but rather factual reassurance. Is there any thread opened where one may pose a few somewhat relevant questions that are not directly attached to debunking a specific example? If so, I'd love to jump in. (I have searched the site for such a thread with no luck)

Anyway. Big thanks to everyone on the site, skeptics and theorists alike. Having all this information concentrated here is certainly convenient and has helped me not only understand, but also appreciate the true beauty of our skies. (It's amazing what we notice when we look up)

Welcome Vostok. There is the Open Discussion forum page which might be more suitable for your questions

If you have general questions about contrails, you might find them on the sister site Contrail Science

Greetings

Hello there people, came here to revive the space threads here as i believe that some artefacts should be debated.
I usually counteract what is being released by the Mars community, the latest example would be the women on Mars.... definitely a trick of light. But there are sometimes good finds which i would like to discuss. You may notice in my future posts that i refrain from using the capital letter "I" in my posts as i find it bizar to do that. Possibly, every single language on Earth is not as arrogant as English hahaha!. Also dont bash me too harsh for leaving unnecessary commas out like don't vs dont. 2 decades of programming and 15 years in the graphical industry have changed me allot in terms of removing unnecessary commas. So maybe if i like you guys enough, i am capable of adding new features to the forum or fix issues at hand. Gotta share the love right?, i think that will cover it. Not much more to say here apart from being from Europe and speaking 4 languages which gets confusing at times. :)

So, the September asteroid (amongst many other failed predictions) didn't happen! I finally achieved escape velocity from the [more extreme] frequencies of conspiracy theories and pseudo sciences - with a little prior help from this site I might add. I'm glad to be here and look forward to receiving some informational feedback on a few things that still has me baffled - all in good time...

Hello, very happy to have found this community. I hope to grow my debunking skills to legendary and this seems like a place to learn..

:)

I discovered this site when I started researching chemtrails as I have a friend who believes in it and way too many FB friends who do. Every once in a while, I still comment on a post but not often anymore. I just wanted to say that I appreciate the science, logic, and common sense presented here on the subject.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good book or scholarly article on the psychology of why people believe in conspiracy theories, and how to deal with it (if at all) when you have friends or family that believe in it?

It's not just chemtrails. I find some of the same closed minds in politics, whether left or right, but for the most part in my own personal experience, I have found more closed minds on the right. Are there simple techniques to open the doors of closed mind?

It's not easy when people become entrenched in these theories, one factor is that when we are given misinformation it can tend to stick in our minds even after being corrected. Another one is "confirmation bias" where we can tend to gather information that confirms a belief and ignore contradictory information. And yet another is a tendency to accept beliefs that fit with our pre-existing world view - there is an example of this in some posts I have put here about global warming / climate change where it has been shown that people more extreme right wing political beliefs are less likely to accept the science because the solutions (i.e. government controls on CO2 emissions) don't fit with their ideology.

I don't think there are any simple techniques, but have a look through some of the pages on debunking here https://www.metabunk.org/practical-debunking.f22/

Hello Metabunk forum members. Mike here. I'm hoping to be a fruitful contributor to this forum in the coming weeks. I started out on the other side (CT) last summer, falling completely headlong into the "rabbit hole". I'm hoping I can develop a proper perspective here - and critical thinking skills - to better evaluate my worldview in a more logical and reasonable manner. Please be patient and kind to me. I have much to learn. Just to give you an idea - I wasn't even aware of what a "logical fallacy" was until recently. I'm self-educated in many schools of thought and never attended a university. Recently, I stumbled across the writings of Thomas Paine and (early) Annie Besant. These two giant intellectual thinkers brought me out of conspiracy/ supernatural thinking, and into the realm of enlightenment.

where it has been shown that people more extreme right wing political beliefs are less likely to accept the science because the solutions (i.e. government controls on CO2 emissions) don't fit with their ideology.
one helpful simple technique is to for ex, reword that sentence to... "where it has been shown that people are less likely to accept the science because the solutions (i.e. government controls on CO2 emissions) don't fit with their ideology"

:)

Perhaps this might help understand why conspiracies exist - in brief, cults tend to emerge in the melting pot of religion and politics with convincing narratives that serve to upstage the established order. Bear in mind that ignorance and pre-existing paradigms constantly face this predicament.

I take it you are saying it's not so helpful to pigeonhole people that way? i.e. in that example, as extreme right wing (even though for that example there is a strong correlation)

only in the context of 'how do i talk to family and friends'. if youre just making a general point, as you were- not to a specific person- it's fine.

Incidentally while I am on the subject of pigeonholing people - I have noticed a certain correlation between what i might call "new age hippie treehuggers" and ct beliefs.

Which is not to say that all such people believe in ct's, but it seems to me that there is an "alternative" mindset that are into organic health food, back to nature lifestyle etc., who then tend to be anti gmo, anti vaccine, and anti various other things, and among those people some can have a tendency to accept conspiracy theories like chemtrails and agenda 21,
which is kind of weird because of they ought to be right behind agenda 21 (the real one) but instead have been sucked into the conspiracy theory ...

But that's a similar example of how a particular world view can lead people to accept misinformation
