UFO over Cornwall filmed by stargazer from her balcony in Newquay

A stargazer in Cornwall caught sight of more than she expected as a mysterious "phenomenon" appeared in the distant night sky. "intrigued" Monique Lyle grabbed her phone and started filming what looked "like something out of a science fiction movie" from the balcony of her Newquay flat.

Monique, who runs a radio station, Funky Media Radio, said she was "completely taken aback" as she watched the unidentified flying object for several minutes before it "vanished". She witnessed it at about 6.30pm on Monday night (December 9).

The 41-year-old told CornwallLive: "When I first saw the object, I was completely taken aback. I often stargaze, so I'm familiar with the night sky, and I knew immediately that this wasn't a star or any usual phenomenon like an aircraft. It was bright, changing colours, and seemed unusually close to town.

"It felt surreal and intriguing, almost like something out of a science fiction movie. I was in the middle of a live broadcast for my radio station, Funky Media Radio. It was a typical evening for me until I caught a glimpse of the object from the corner of my eye.

"Its movement and brightness instantly drew my attention, so I quickly grabbed my phone to take a photo and start filming. I was positioned on higher ground in Newquay from my apartment building balcony which gave me a clear and uninterrupted view of the sky. The elevation made it easier to observe the object closely before it vanished after about five minutes."

She was looking down Narrowcliff Road (link) the Streetview gives a bearing of the view as 225° = South West.

She was looking south west from Newquay at 1830UTC on 9 December 2024 - directly towards Venus

Conclusion - she saw Venus.

I remember last year in March I came home in the evening and was baffled by two very bright lights in a very clear sky with no other stars. Really looked UFO-like. It was Jupiter in close conjunction with Venus. A starmapper app comes in handy once in a while.

Yet another example of how the UFO experiencer takes a moment to explicitly state that it is not the thing that it actually is? (OK, technically Venus is not a star, but I'm saying it's close enough for the trope.)

The prevalence of this tendency makes me want to go back to some classic cases, like the Kumburgaz UFO, and see if Mr. Yalman ever stated what it definitely wasn't...

It would appear she was also multi tasking:

She's in the middle of a live (streamed) broadcast, then sees the light and heads out on the balcony to film it while her mix is presumably still playing on the stream. Then I guess gets off the balcony back into her "studio" in time to turn the knobs on her deck.

It seems Ms. Lyle is better known as Monuriki, as she handles the 6:00pm-7:00pm slot on Mondays:

And she's in Cornwall, where apparently one can partake in cacao ceremonies. Who knew?

Since the summer of 2022, I have immersed myself in cacao ceremonies and ecstatic dance amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Cornwall. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the fusion of nature and technology, where the Earth's heartbeat resonates through music. The energy of the land seamlessly intertwines with rhythmic sound, forging a profound connection between body, soul, and the natural world.
