That is interesting. There's obvious parallels with the longevity of the fluoridation and vaccination scares, which also have roots going back many many decades.

Seems like the general concept behind these things get recycled. I'd bet there were health scares regarding just about anything new.

The fluoridation CT used to appeal primarily to the fringe political right-wing and religious end-time believers ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridation_controversy ~ I think since the dawn of the internet, this CT (along with the vaccination CT) is appealing to much broader range of people.
