Strange object seen in skies over Melbourne, Australia - 21 May 2021

A glowing object was seen in the skies over Melbourne on Friday 21st of May 2021 between 8:00am & 8:36am from a melbourne construction site.

Below is the witness statements and the video:

'It was a Friday morning around 8am while I was at work. I'm a scaffolder and this bright light appeared over our main city. It almost looked like a projection or hologram. It appeared and disappeared twice and all the other guys I was working with witnessed it too.'

'It remained visible for a few minutes each time before disappearing for good.'

'I've never seen anything like this or anything unusual in the sky but in this year alone I've seen so many strange things in the sky.'

I have been told that there is more footage from different angles online (I don't have this) and I also believe there is more information in terms of a location.

If there is any sleuths that can find this information it would be appreciated.

With the little information I have to go off I believe that they were seeing the suns reflection off the gold portion of the Eureka Sky Deck (see below). This would explain why it was only seen stationary in the sky and then it disappeared. It would also explain why they saw it over the city.

According to the historical weather it was clear skies (source: https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/australia/melbourne/historic?month=5&year=2021) however in the video it does appear that there is some fog or a haze.

Looks like a contender.

If it was visible for several minutes at a time after 08:00 in Melbourne, and was unusual, we might expect hundreds, probably thousands of witnesses, and at least a few accounts from e.g. cops, aviation professionals, academics- and lots of confirmatory footage.

As there's no indication of that, maybe the cause of the scaffolder's light didn't look as spectacular to most locals, or its cause was understood.
It'd be useful to know the scaffolder's location.

Although it doesn't necessarily cast doubt on the authenticity of this footage (or the reactions of the witness- at least at the time of his sighting), the YouTube channel it's on, Everything UFO, seems to be quite happy to take short clips of out-of-context material or (what I would consider to be) fairly obvious hoaxes and present them as evidence for UFOs/ ETs/ cryptids etc.

It was filmed here, looking at the Swanston Central Building, there's narrow section which is catching the light, appearing as a column.

Looking at it on Bing street view (from when the building was under construction) you can see from roughly that location the same section of building catching the light from the South.

Wow, @Giddierone's nailed it I think.

The worksite appears to be on University Street.

Next bit might not really add anything, but very rough estimations of the scaffolder's line of sight (well, direction approx. in the horizontal plane- I've not taken elevation of the light into account).

If you look at the available street view imagery from Mapillary.com for example, (there's no images I could find from that exact street but there are a couple from parallel roads) you can see that the inside "crease" of the building tends to catch the light in the same shape as the "UFO".

This is the building it was filmed from. Looks like it was repointed recently - which would require scaffolding....

Nailed it.

I can very clearly say you have solved this one and also another personal sighting I had in Melbourne, Australia many years ago (which I didn't post here). I believe I saw the exact same reflection from a different angle on a different date. In my case it visibly moved which makes sense with the movement of the sun against the glass.

@Mick West this one can be closed as 'solved', we need a new 'solved' section on this forum if it doesn't have one!
