Somewhat Unsual Looking Lights in the Sky Explained as Mid Air Refueling of a Boeing Globemaster III by a Boeing Pegasis

I saw something that looked strange in the sky the other night which turned out to have a neat prosaic explanation. Thought this community might find it interesting.

So, I stepped outside at night and noticed several solid red lights in the sky just above the trees. From my vantage point it looked like they were just hovering there, and relatively low and close by. They spanned a wide distance, implying that if it were a single aircraft it would have had to be gigantic. From my vantage point, the lights appeared to drift to the left until they were obscured by trees. There was nothing physically anomalous about what I saw, but I could tell it was definitely out of the ordinary.

So I looked on flightradar24 the next morning, and it turns out that the trajectories of a Boeing Pegasis and a Boeing Globemaster III overlapped about 15 to 25 miles away from me and about 5 miles high.

Here is a photo of these two planes in the day.

They each fly with some pretty bright red lights at night.
