[IMHO] All too often people rely on their own limited experience, without any actual research, to form opinions and draw conclusions. They rely on what is commonly referred to as 'common sense' and we regularly see where this leads them to an incorrect conclusion. With most people in the developed world having Internet access at hand via a smart phone or computer, I find it unfathomable that so many people hold fast to an opinion based on their own subjective experience rather than objective verifiable facts and expert opinion.
This piece in Psychology Today does a good job of exposing the problem of relying on one's own experiences and nothing else from which to form an opinion.
