Number printing in the sky? [SkyTyping]

and another one, looks neat but how?

Looks like very well co-ordinated puffs of smoke?

I'd imagine the weather would have to be just right for them to be able to do this. I remember growing up at the shore and seeing these types of events over the crowded beaches as advertising ploys...

This was done in Austin on March 14, PI day. Here's an article about it. EDIT: They actually did it on the 13th ...

The company that did this one is called AirSign.com and their website has some information about how the 'sky printing' technology works. They use 5 aircraft flying in formation with computer controlled smoke generators putting out puffs of smoke to generate a dot matrix of letters or numbers.

That's great! I wish I'd seen it...

I almost missed it, but a friend called me and said "just step outside and look at the sky." It took me about 30 seconds to make the connection between the numbers and what day it was, although IIRC, the display was actually done on March 13. I brought pies into my former workplace to celebrate on the 14th. I regret not getting a picture of it at the time.
