Alien Mission

Fine, we can go search the Himalayas for the Yeti ONE more time, but keep a safe altitude over the Pacific and PLEASE watch where you're going. We can't afford another Amelia Earhart incident.

I thought that was a guy with a backpack running away from the camera for a good 12 seconds!!

That was spookily reminscent of the extinct australian critter, photos of which were discussed here some time last year - again there was the confusion about what direction the creature was moving in and I even think a tail was confused with a limb, perhaps an ear too. Humans are brilliant, but terrible, pattern matchers.

As a full-on dog guy, I only saw the cute dog...
but once the "guy with a backpack" angle was mentioned, yeah, I could see that too...
(but also thinking: "Where did he get that cool sweatshirt with a dog's face on the back?") :p

That blog is a beauty, especially the illustrations.
Identified Flying Objects (& Esoteric Truth)

In the 1970s, the distinction between fact and fiction completely broke down as a result of years of government fabrications, corporate deceit, media falsehoods and systematic educational disinformation.

Objective truth gained an esoteric, almost occult status along with subjects such as ghosts, bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, pagan paediatrics and other unexplained phenomena. Many didn't believe that objective truth even existed.

One area of so-called "arcane knowledge" concerned IFOs (Identified Flying Objects), which eventually caught the public imagination, or rather the lack of it. Sensationalised books and magazines about the topic flooded newsagents and bookshops. By the end of the decade, many people claimed to have had a "close encounter" with an IFO. Some even reported that they had been taken aboard such craft.

In keeping with the longstanding human tendency to take humor seriously and just suck all the fun out of everything, I will debunk that by pointing out that that is most probably a stack of three TRYLBY sport kites.

trlby-triple-stunt-kite-dual-line_1_a993e72f37e449c45347a7745a02d652.jpg

There have been other brands of stackable diamond stunt kites with a three-pack being a popular option, with minor differences between brands that would not show up in the resolution in that picture, but I'll just arbitrarily say it's most likely to be a stack of TRLBYs so as to sound more authoritative.

Or else it's swamp gas.

The original claim is that it's an IFO, so by identifying the objects, you're not debunking the claim, you're confirming it!

Not just that, but confirming beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was "comprehensible" too, as claimed.
I'm glad you liked the site - thank you for doing the image embedding stuff!

As a guy old enough to remember all ads going over the airwaves
(we couldn't afford cable TV when it first came out) and sanitized for our protection...this kind of humor/ad is still a bit jolting to me.
But, I guess as more "internet only" ads are created, this type of language and content will probably become much more common.
[this new anti-Boebert ad doesn't offend me...I'm rarely offended...it just seems like we've crossed a new line...]

as long as you realize it's humor (obvious once you notice the missing party affiliation)
"Alex Walker" is not an actual candidate.

I don't think so...
a) What is Alex Walker's party?
b) Where is his campaign website, or his campaign headquarters?
c) What is his district? aka where does he live, and where has he registered his candidacy?

I couldn't find evidence for any of this, and all of the news coverage is just referencing this one video. It's a hoax.

So a candidate named Alex Walker is indeed listed at the Colorado Board of Elections. He has begun the process of filing as a candidate, his paperwork is due in March.

Whether he completes the process and gets on the ballot remains to be seen. And whether he is a serious candidate or a Pat Paulson-esque satirical candidate is also an open question.

In my previous, now deleted, post I had shared that I did not find him on a political website that keeps track of candidates. That may be because he has not completed his filing process in Colorado yet.

sounds like he has anger issues (which is fine) that would explain his over-the-top commercial
Article:
Walker is openly gay, raised by Republican parents in Littleton and Eagle, according to his campaign announcement. He is an entrepreneur and has worked as an engineer.

The announcement cites Walker’s business experience and the loss of his brother to suicide as reasons for his campaign.

“Part of why I’m running is to honor my brother and everyone left behind by elected officials who don’t do their jobs,” the announcement said. “I’m 100 percent committed to stopping Boebert from continuing her endless cycle of attacking people because of who they are or what they look like.”

You think he has "anger issues" because he's gay?

Because he was raised by Republicans?

Because he says he wants politicians to "...do their jobs" ?

Because he dislikes the embarassing way Boebert "represents" his state?

Or are you inferrng all that from just "Democrat" ?

add: you're angry just because i said "sounds like he has anger issues (which is fine)". At least Walker had legitimate reasons to be angry.

What is the evidence Walker is even angry?
do you normally fling shit at people you are not angry at? is that a thing men do? maybe it is... in which case i remove my assumption he is angry about his brothers death and all the people left behind by politicians. happy? jeez.

We are real Coloradans.
We deserve a living wage, small government that actually works, and freedom of choice.
Instead, we get b#lls#!t!

What anger!

While it seems to me that the accusation of "anger"
in this instance is both weak and intended as an insult,
at the gay Democrat, ;p
I believe that there are times when citizens should be
angry at the bad behavior of their paid representatives,
and object, non-violently, as here.

At any rate, I contributed the ad because, compared to most
political ads, I thought it was unique, unsettling, and a bit funny.
I really didn't expect a dozen (non-funny) responses...
so I won't say anything more about the ad.

p.s. And yes, Mendel, I get your skepticism...I too wasted some
time trying to verify the validity...but at the end of the day, I figured
that if the San Jose Mercury News found it credible enough to run,
without mentioning a potential hoax, my inability to debunk it might be for a good reason...
p.p.s. I'm sure you noticed: "Democratic primary candidates
Note: The candidate list in this election may not be complete" in your 2,064 post...

and intended as an insult
it wasn't. and you've known me long enough to know it is ridiculous and disgusting to say i am insulting him because he is gay. It's pretty sad you even focused on that bit of the article.

But if you want to go with "he made that video because he is an immature 1645733442765.png". I'm ok with that.

there is no shame in being angry over the pathetic state of mental health care in our country, there is no shame in being angry over injustices, etc.

and there is definitely no shame in being angry over the death of a loved one. I am angry -and unashamed- you posted that video in the humor thread as it looked to me like he was mimicking a gun massacre (and i think he was as Boebart is the gun chick). It was graphic, disgusting and upsetting, and you should both be ashamed of subjecting people to that.

How can you interpret his, and others, *dodging* of shit as *flinging* shit? You've got the advert completely backwards.

and others,
Boebart isnt really the one flinging sh*t at the voters in the video, he chose to do that to them. (which is fine, i'm sure they deserve it for voting Boebart in in the first place)

You don't need to agree with me. It's possible his conservative district disagrees with me too, so it's all good.
