Tehran UFO F4 Dogfight

Oxymoron

Thought this was an interesting subject which people may wish to discuss and hopefully be able to add some insight to. It is very well documented but what was it?

Was it alien?
Was it U.S technology?
Something else?
Any ideas?

"An outstanding report. This case is a classic which meets all the criteria necessary for a valid study of the UFO phenomenon:
 • a) The object was seen by multiple witnesses from different locations (i.e., Shamiran, Mehrabad, and the dry lake bed) and viewpoints (both airborne and from the ground).
 • b) The credibility of many of the witnesses was high (an Air Force general, qualified aircrews, and experienced tower operators).
 • c) Visual sightings were confirmed by radar.
 • d) Similar electromagnetic effects (EME) were reported by three separate aircraft.
 • e) There were physiological effects on some crew members (i.e., loss of night vision due to the brightness of the object).
 • f) An inordinate amount of maneuverability was displayed by the UFOs."

I do not understand how if he is only 25 nautical miles away travelling at the speed of sound, all that he describes could have happened before he reached or crashed into the 'mothership'. We are talking about a few seconds here are we not.

Also, I do not understand how an emp blast could take out electrical systems on the F4 but he could still control a difficult evasive manouvre.

Also, why would the military wait until the morning to investigate a supposed ufo crash?

There are many questions.

Any suggestions?

I think, especially at that time, a jet-fighter would have operated without a whole lot of computer-input on control/propulsion/ect. Interference that would mess around with the electrical systems of a jet-fighter wouldn't necessarily have any effect on its engine/steering... and who's to say an emp burst is even what's being suggested here.

remote area maybe? worried about their aircraft with electrical systems going wonky at night?
Any suggestions?
The whole 'Aliens' thing, though a lot of fun to think about, has never seemed too likely to me. Could be wrong, and perhaps some sort of 'warp' technology is indeed possible, but even if the crazy distances inherently involved could be crossed, the current accounts of interactions with Aliens hardly seem a worthy purpose for such a journey, unless their goal is to acquire valuable entertainment media (intergalactic reality TV, 'Human's got Punk'd!' style programming, taboo interplanetary porn, ect.) All that said, this seems a relatively solid account of something rather strange having been witnessed, somewhat similar to other accounts of UFO's. I certainly believe UFO's are 'real', it's silly to suggest otherwise, considering the term is exceptionally broad. I just have serious doubts about the strange 'craft' witnessed flying about being extraterrestrial in origin.

The F-4 had electo-hydro-mechanical flight controls. It took the constant attention of two people to fly and fight this beast. Supersonic, at night, with no displays this guy was literally a dead man unless he was the most SH stick who ever flew or he was straight and level when things went bye-bye and he didn't input any abrupt attitude changes until things came back.

In short, he most probably couldn't have done this and lived. And considering the design of the ejection seat I have a real hard time with it failing. There is way too much improbability here. All I'm willing to believe is that radar painted something.....

Brian Dunning did a good review of the incident for his Skeptoid podcast a few months back.

His take away? We have no idea what it was in the sky that night, but "no idea" does not mean alien UFO. He also clears up a number of erroneous facts about the incident that many UFO believers point to as evidence.

Along with a handful of other incidents, I think this is one of the few UFOs that have yet to be explained fully.

Also from the link above, referring to a C-141 Starlifter:
"These large transport aircraft carried such transponders designed to be released in the event of a crash, but they'd been having problems with the beepers being ejected simply by turbulence over the mountains just north of Tehran."

Never heard of any system like this. That doesn't ring accurate.
