Bugs and Suggestions for Metabunk.org

Here's an "interesting glitch" (if that is what it is).

When a YouTube video is embedded, and watched in a thread....and then if I use the 'home' button on the keyboard to jump back to top of page...instead of the page jump, the YouTube video re-starts.

Not a biggie, you learn to adapt and live with it. Wondering if it's just computer "coding", or some other techie-geeky reason?

(ALSO...not related, but personal....I lost a cellphone, called it, can't hear it....BUT it chimes after a "missed call" (or VM) and NOW it's like a cricket....I can almost hear it going off, but cannot located it accurately. Ah, "technology"!!!)

That's a feature. Basically when you have clicked a youtube video, the "focus" is on that video, which is essentially an embedded web page. The video then intercepts any key presses that it wants to handle. Try pressing any of the number keys, like "2" will jump you 20% into the video. Or the spacebar will pause/play the video

If you click outside the video, then it will return focus to the main page, so the keys will start working as you expect again.

Ah. OK, those nuances were "transparent" to me, as a user. As I said, I can "work around" it. Just thought I'd ask, and thanks much for the explanation!!

It's meant just for correcting typos. Generally the original will have been emailed out anyway.

Mick was there a DDoS attack on you (today, 29 June, ~1130 to 1200 PDT)?
Something was happening. I think it was just some spambots knocking around. Looks like I've got to block a few IP address
Code:

Notice multiple attempts to login and access a profile within a few seconds. Lookin up the IP address says it's a spammer.

Do others use safari on metabunk? I've just given up on firefox as it eats my CPU and ram, and the latest update completely broke being able to watch flash videos at all. Safari is much better.

Having swapped over, there's a bit of weirdness happening. Like if need to edit a post, the edit window pops up way down the bottom and I have to scroll to find it.

(Oh nevermind, it's one of my extensions)

I don't know if it was my computer or what but for about 15 minutes or longer I kept getting a 502 error saying the issue was with this site. It wouldn't let me log on

There was an issue with the site (PHP upgrade did not go smoothly, had to roll back). Now fixed.

Not sure where problem lies but today I've been getting the same old post showing as a New Post (along with any new posts). It's the last one in https://www.metabunk.org/threads/ph...hat-you-took-yourself.2900/page-3#post-118778

No matter how many times I view it, it keeps being presented as NEW. Anyone else experiencing similar?
Not today but I've brought it up from time to time. Where the alert will show up and it will be the same post you've viewed, and when you click on it there will be newer post in the thread that don't show up in the alerts as well.

I've flushed the thread cache, which seems to have fixed some of the above problem.

If you still see problems, then let me know which thread.

Very minor observation, likely due to recent upgrade changes. Some instances when editing posts, brief views of the text in a different font ('Times New Roman'?) appear, before converting to the 'standard' (is it "Tahoma"?)

Just a minor glitch, thought it interesting.

The default font is Verdana.

Might be browser specific. What browser are you using?

What browser are you using?

Chrome.

Verdana. OK...hard to tell the difference, but doesn't matter. I think most Windows default to Times New? Dunno. (edit: In my version of 'Word', it does...of course, this is from 2000, so....)

Again, it was very brief....thought you'd be interested in knowing.

(I just Googled "verdana vs tahoma"...thought this was amusing!):

When I'm visiting metabunk with a smartphone, there are no buttons to share a thread via twitter/facebook. It would be nice to have them ;-)

I'm using an old Andriod phone with Opera-Mini as browser.

I've been getting a font size change as the result of using spellchecker. Chrome.

Yes, I was getting that too. Seems like it's a Chrome bug/problem that has been around for a while (since 2009, according to Google!!). I'll add it to the list.

Cannot copy/paste images simply anymore in safari (have to use the image button), but it still works in firefox.
It's not the site's fault (unless there's a conflict with safari specifically in the code), so I'm still in need of a good browser - safari uses all the ram (and is no longer updated for my OS), firefox uses all the cpu and won't play flash videos without freezing.
How does chrome perform on a mac using snow leopard?

Try cleaning your caches. Apple just suck a higher class than Gates's sucks.

Edit: "Pay real money to restore your machine's functionality, or don't, and see how much we really care" - Apple (anonymous).

Could you copy/paste images with Safari before?

FWIW....this afternoon I was having issues with ALL Internet pages not loading (Chrome, Windows 7 OS). Cleared the cache...no joy.

THEN I just re-booted (Windows "Restart")....I usually just let it "Sleep" or "Hibernate" (a laptop). Too often, I suppose.

Anyway....Did the trick!!

No I used to use firefox until it became too bloated for my cpu to handle so I've just swapped - but it's apparently a limitation of the browser. It's only slightly annoying.
I looked up chrome's issues with osx and it's a cpu hog too, so I'll just stick with relatively primitve safari.
